Operational
Effective Design relies heavily on research, since Design can never - per definition - be conceived in a vacuum or, as many - more artistic approaches - would have it, as an expressive act. Design responds to and functions in a specific environment, a context. That's why a Designer can never work alone. Operational Research (OR) thus becomes part and parcel of the Design process, and this research may then benefit not only the Design component, but rather all stakeholders involved. Critical path analysis, network optimization, target search, etc. - using the whole playbook of OR and Systematic Questioning (SQ) is crucial for a successful Design strategy. |
